Caregiver

Summary

  • Assist our elderly or physically challenged clients with managing their home life with empathy and patience. Provide care such as toileting, bathing, grooming and medication reminders as well as laundry, light housekeeping, washing dishes and preparing meals as needed. Also provides transportation to medical appointments, grocery shopping, errands, leisure activities, restaurants or similar activities.  Will also serve our clients with other aspects of daily living.  

 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide compassionate care and is sensitive to client’s needs and concerns

  • Exhibit patience and understanding

  • Carry out directions set out in client’s personal care plan. 

  • Shows initiative in maintaining and improving our client’s daily living environment

  • Exhibit standard health and nursing practices and procedures in providing care

  • Appropriately ambulate and exercise the client as assigned

  • Report changes in the client’s condition and needs to your supervisor and/or family, as determined in the client’s personal care plan

  • Performs household services such as toileting, bathing, grooming and medication reminders as well as laundry, light housekeeping, washing dishes and preparing meals as needed

  • Provide personal care such as bathing, grooming and medication reminders

  • Provide transportation as needed for:  medical appointments, grocery shopping, errands, leisure activities, restaurants or similar activities.

  • Provide  written documentation and oral reports on the client’s moods, difficulties or daily activities

  • Maintain confidentiality, sensitivity to client’s needs, discretion and good judgement.

  • Show respect and a professional attitude at all times

  • Carefully monitor patients to prevent falling

  • Perform other care tasks as assigned

 

Education and Experience

  • Must possess a High School Diploma or GED

  • Certification by New York State as a: Home Health Aide (HHA), Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)  and/or Personal Care Assistant (PCA)

  • Experience and specific training with competence to perform assigned functions of personal care for clients in their residence.

  • The position demands individuals that are very dependable, punctual, and responsible and can be counted on to protect our vulnerable population of clients.

  • Maintain a functioning cell phone at all times

  • Must have connection to the internet and readily available by email with access to video conferencing platform. 

  • Must possess a strong desire to serve our elderly or physically challenged clients in their homes and improve their daily lives

  • Maturity and politeness, reliability and common sense are essential qualities necessary to meet our client’s needs, safety and well-being

  • Honesty and integrity are essential to working in our clients’ homes

  • Must be patient and understanding of our clients’ needs

  • Job requires physical ability to assist patients and prevent falls

  • Must possess strong communication and observation skills

  • A professional  demeanor, including: appropriate dress, good hygiene, respectful language, avoidance of strong perfumes/colognes, conservative jewelry (piercings removed) and covered tattoos, etc.

  • Must have reliable transportation in order to consistently meet scheduled work times. 

 

Mental/Physical Demands

  • Must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. 

  • Must be able to periodically function under considerable levels of stress and be able to manage multiple tasks.

  • Must be calm, capable and confident in the event of an emergency

  • Will periodically either be sitting, standing, walking, crouching, or stooping. 

  • Must have ability to recall, remember and maintain mental focus.
